A Video On Why We Fast

Yes we are required to fast and we know it has health benefits, but to truly know the essence of why we fast is important to know and to explain to our children. Here is a helpful video by brother Nouman Ali Khan to explain this to your children, short and sweet. It will only take 10 minutes of your time to learn something that will give them a better understanding of why we fast Inshallah. (Read more...)

Dealing With a Disobedient Teen

I was researching the web and came across a question and answer forum where a mother was pleading for advice in dealing with her disobedient teenage daughter. I was intrigued of course because as a mom of teens, I notice the sudden "loss of hearing" when I ask my teens to do anything. As I read through the responses and briefly skimmed over the usual answers, a few mothers' answers stood out from the rest. Their words were honest, heartfelt, earnest, and applicable to modern society. This led (Read more...)

An Informative Video About Homeschooling

Assalamu Alaikum. If you ever wanted an inclination of homeschooling in the US, this video is a nice way to take a look inside a few Muslim family homes. I want to mention that not all homeschoolers teach this way, there are those that are more flexible and those that are more rigid, it really tailors around each family's individual needs. I know sometimes we see how others homeschool, and we think - no way do I have the time or the effort to do that! Well, I can assure you that I do not spend (Read more...)

The Day I Taught My Kids a Lesson

I was fed-up! It must have been the 2000th time I went to my kids' room and witnessed a sight close to a tornado aftermath. There were toys mixed with clothes, clean clothes mixed with dirty clothes, an overflowing laundry basket (that I had emptied a few days ago), and as for board game pieces, let me not go there. Well, this was the day I had enough. No more chances, no more begging, no chore charts, no reminding, and no more pleading with my kids to clean their rooms. Today was the day my kids (Read more...)

The 10 Reasons Children Misbehave

Recently, two of my older children have been quite challenging and causing me to get five more strands of gray hair! Boy, was I wrong to think that as children get older, it becomes easier as a parent. Physically maybe, but mentally, watch out! However, I do realize that when my children bother me, I need to pause to take a look at the situation and analyze the cause of their misbehavior. From my experience, there is always a reason kids act up, and it is up to the parents to find the cause. Here (Read more...)

When Your Motherhood Struggles Seem Tough

All of us at one time or another go through tough times and moments of despair - even desperation. Our first instinct is to cry out, "Why me?!" We forget that sometimes we are being tested and sometimes we have brought it upon ourselves. The Quran says: "Whatever of good reaches you, is from Allah, but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourself. And We have sent you (O Muhammad SAW) as a Messenger to mankind, and Allah is Sufficient as a Witness." (An-Nisa Verse 79) Even when we understand (Read more...)

Overcoming The Challenges of Motherhood Audio Interview

Muslimommy was featured on a popular radio station recently Alhamdulillah. It was quite unexpected as I am more suited behind the scenes of my laptop writing my posts whenever I can fit in some time. But Allah SWT works in mysterious ways as it was a surprise to be invited to share my thoughts over air and with so many listeners overseas. I'll be honest, I was nervous at first when I remembered that what I say stays put, and there is no editing my thoughts if I make an error. But my host was ever (Read more...)

When Children Get Sick

My kids are all sick, and that's no fun for a mommy! It definitely could get worse I guess, if I get sick too, but I'm not going to worry about that yet, even as I feel the scratchiness in my throat. I used to feel helpless when I did not know how I was going to deal with the tough time of my kids being sick. In the past, I would put my trust in doctors and medication. I felt that I did not know how to handle sickness, and when my children were young, I felt that I could not take a chance with (Read more...)
